Mount Kilimanjaro
Marangu route
This route has a moderate slope, making it less difficult to climb. It is the most popular way up Kilimanjaro, and is the only route with emergency evacuation service.
Also, it is the only route with huts, having dormitory and dining rooms.
Day 1 Breakfast, drive from your hotel to Marangu gate. Start climbing to the first hut- Mandara hut - 2743 m. Dinner and an overnight stay at Mandara hut.
Day 2 Breakfast, ascend to Horombo hut -3660 m. Both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks can be viewed easily on the way. Dinner and an overnight stay at Horombo hut.
Day 3 Today we spend the acclimatization day at Horombo by hiking to a nearby Mawenzi and the surrounding and come back the hut for hot lunch, Horombo.
Day 4 Breakfast, further ascending to Kibo hut - 4572 m. Dinner and an overnight stay at Kibo hut.
Day 5 Wake up at midnight, and after a snack, proceed to the summit through Gilman’s point - 5680 m. It is about 5-6hours and 1-2 hours from Kibo hut to Gilman’s point and from Gilman’s point to Uhuru Peak - 5890 m respectively. Thus reaching the peak in the early morning of the fifth day and start descending after picture taking on the top to Horombo hut for diner and an overnight after a short break at Kibo hut.
Day 6 Breakfast, Descend from Horombo hut to Marangu gate. The waiting car will take you to Moshi.
Machama route
This is the second most popular route, and it is considered the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. With a gradual ascend through the forest you emerge to see wide views of the moorland on Shira plateau, Kibo and Western Breach. The different kinds of vegetation found along the route make it the most sceneric route. For a slightly more technical climb on Kilimanjaro, one can conquer Uhuru peak from Arrow Glacier camp, but a less challenging route can be taken from Barranco hut.
Day 1 Breakfast, drive from your hotel in Moshi/Arusha to Machame gate in around 45min. After about an hour of registration and park fees payments, start climbing to the Machame Camp - 3017 m.
Day 2 Breakfast Shira Camp - 3840 m. The distance is about 5-6 hours.
Day 3 After breakfast, we will ascend to Lava tower - 4600 m with lunch on the way to Baranco, then descend slowly to Baranco Camp - 3900 m for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 After breakfast, we leave Baranco hut for Barafu hut - 4544 m. We will pass through the last water drop at Karanga valley on the way up. Overnight Barafu Camp.
Day 5 Wake up at midnight, and after a small snack, start ascending to Uhuru Peak through the Stella point - 5680 m, then after reaching the summit, we will head down to Mweka Camp - 3050 m for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 After breakfast, we will head down to Mweka gate with lunch packet, and the waiting vehicle will take you to Moshi.
Umbwe route
This is the steepest route up or down Kilimanjaro, thus those few people who use this route do use this route to descend rather than ascending . The route also offers scenery.
Umbwe route is usually recommended for descent only. Hardly anyone climbs it. It is extremely steep and offers incredible views of Kibo, the Great Western Breach, a huge stone mass protruding from Kibo, and the Baranco. For a slightly more technical climb on Kilimanjaro, one can conquer Uhuru peak from Arrow Glacier camp, but a less challenging route can be taken from Baranco hut.
Day 1
Breakfast, leave for Umbwe route. We will pass through
the banana and coffee plantations and Umbwe parish - 1402 m
on the way to Umbwe. Dinner and overnight at Bivouac I – 2835 m or Bivouac II - 3840 m.
Day 2 Breakfast, leave the camp
for Baranco camp. On the way we pass through heather and open moorlands.
Day 3 From Baranco camp,
we can go west to Shira Plateau or up to Lava Tower
hut and the summit via the Great Western Breach and
Arrow Glacier camp.
Day 4 Wake up at midnight
for a last ascending moment to the summit via Kibo
crater and on to Uhuru Peak. Thereafter, we can descend
the same trail or Mweka route. Dinner and an overnight
stay at the trail of your choice.
Day 5 Breakfast, descend to
the gate, we will take you to Moshi
These routes are the most common to do for the Kilimanjaro,

Mount Meru
Day 1 Momella Gate to Mariakamba Hut 3500 m
Depart form Arusha to Momella Gate on the other side of
the park . Walking through the park with armed ranger,
game viewing en-route heading to Mariakamba Hut, about
3500m above the sea level. Overnight camping at the hut/campsite
Day 2 Mariakamba Hut to Little Meru 3820 m
Leaving Mariakamba Hut early in the morning probably 4:00 am winding
up to Saddle Hut, approximately 3500 m; Have a break for lunch and
gathering momentum, and then trek to the Little Meru 3820 m summit.
After drinks and photos starts the journey back to Saddle Hut for overnight the hut/campsite.
Day 3 Saddle Hut to the Summit 4566 m
Early morning (probably 3:00am) climbing towards the summit of Meru Mountain
4566 m, as an option: walking on the rim of Meru Crater,
this is the place to take Photos of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Back to Saddle Hut.

Day 4 Saddle Hut Momella Gate
After a breakfast and reach Momella gate at midday,
picked-up and drive to Arusha town.
Mount Kenia
To climb to the highest peaks-Batian and Nelion,
one requires ropes, ice-axes and other specialized
climbing gear. The two peaks can be attempted by
experienced climbers. Non-experienced climbers have
managed to reach point Lenana - 4970 m commonly
called the "Tourist Peak".
Naro Moru Route This is the most popular
route although not the most scenic. It is also the fastest route
to point Lenana. It is the easiest route to the top with
bunkhouses and good access.
Day 1 Naro Moru Park Gate - Met Station. 10 km, 3-4 hours,
1000m ascent. The trail ascends from Naro Moru gate to Met Station
- 3050 m, possible sidetracks through the Teleki valley
Day 2 Met Station - Mackinders Camp. 10 km 5-6 hours,
1150 m ascent. Continue to climb past the vertical bog up
to Mackinders Camp at 4210 m.
Day 3 Mackinder's Camp - Point Lenana 4985 m,
then descent to Met Station 4 km, 3.5 hours, 785 m ascent.
14 km, 5-6 hours, 1935 m descent. At about 3.00am star the
final push to the summit. This early start will allow you
to enjoy the sunrise over the mountains at Point Lenana.
Descend to Met Station for overnight.
Chogoria Route
This is by far the most scenic and interesting route.
It takes in both tropical forests and moorland.
Day 1 Ascend to Minto’s Hut at 4300m which is situated
on a plateau overlooking Lake Michaelson 300m below.
There are spectacular views of the summits from here.
Day 2 The trail continues to Austrian Hut via Tooth Col
which is situated between several rock towers. Overnight at Austrian Hut.
Day 3 An early morning start to attempt the summit of
Point Lenana, which is only about one hour from Austria
Hut. Descend to Chogoria Park Gate for the night.
Chogoria - Naru Moru with Summit Peak Circuit
Combine the very scenic Chogoria route with the
popular Naru Moru together with the Circuit of the Peaks.
Day 1 Transfer to
Naro Moru resting here overnight for acclimatization
Day 2 Ascend to Met Station - 3550 m
Day 3 The trail leads on the
Mackinders Camp overnight here
Day 4 Now on the summit circuit route we
pass Two Tarn Hut, Oblong and Hausberg Tarns before
reaching Shipton’s Camp - 4210 m. Overnight at the camp.
Day 5 An early start (2.00am)
to attempt the final push to the summit at Point Lenana
and views of the sunrise. Descend via Square Tarn to Minto’s
Hut for breakfast before overnighting at Chogoria Park Gate
El Doinyo Lengai
The hike on this mountain is also an interesting combination,
with a four day safari trip.
Day 1 In the morning we drive to Acacia Campsite which is close to Ol Doinyo Lengai an active volcano.
Day 2 After breakfast we start to hike at 7.00 through Emouro
Engoilil (Pembe ya Swala) to the bottom of Ol Doinyo Lengai where you
are met by a vehicle for transport to Lake Natron Campsite. An early night is needed.
Day 3 At 03.00 we transfer by car to the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai
and start trekking to the top arriving at about 07.30. We stay for
about 30 minutes or so to view and photograph the activity from a distance.
Return back to the camp and have lunch. The afternoon is spent walking to t
he nearby waterfalls. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 4 At 05.30 we drive to Lake Natron to view the sunrise and
the flamingos and then depart to Arusha.
